STIGA - Swift electric ride-on lawnmower

Working in harmony with your garden…

a complete gardening experience

innovative architecture and unique battery sharing

the brief

Swift is STIGA’s newest and most innovative lawnmower. Swift was engineered by STIGA to be a light, nimble and fun way for people to care for larger gardens. The aim of our design was to communicate the modern and innovative engineering behind this product, whilst also appealing to STIGA’s brand values of joy and inclusivity.

the design

By working with their engineering team, Lamb Industries was able to trim weight and material radically compared to existing machines. Layout changes included moving the grass collection centrally, enabled by using two smaller contra-rotating blades. This allowed us to create a design with deep cuts in the side, eschewing the ‘jelly-mould’ look of traditional ride-ons and allowed the incorporation of the distinctive STIGA ‘arrows’ on the sides. These are used to communicate forward motion and contribute to the visual (and actual) feeling of lightness.

We also made various changes to improve the final design ergonomically. Such as having the front of the machine open with a flat foot deck, making Swift more accessible and further contributing to the visual sense of speed and lightness. Likewise, the battery compartments are mounted down low to give a centre of gravity closer to the ground, increasing the feeling of stability and security for consumers when using Swift. The batteries themselves are removable and can be used on STIGA’s range of power tools - battery sharing is a user-focused innovation unique to STIGA Swift.

Transformational - that’s a great way to describe how Lamb Industries changed our entire approach to design.  The results speak for themselves, with revenues and market shares at record levels, but what is most rewarding is the beautiful designs, bringing to life products that really work.  The attention to detail in ergonomics, form, and function as well as the clever details which ensure reliability and keen costs are the pinnacle of excellence that I would recommend to anyone without a moment’s hesitation. This is a great company, run and staffed by superb professionals who really care about their work.
